Graduate Admission Process

 

Prospective graduate students must apply to the University of Oklahoma Graduate School to be considered for the graduate program.

​

Official transcripts must be sent to OU graduate admissions directly. Do not send transcripts to the School of Visual Arts.

International students must complete TOEFL requirements (if applicable). Further, international applicants should review the International Student Admissions page.

Master of Fine Art in Art

Applications Due: January 15th (fall admission only).

Undergraduate Admission Process

OU School of Visual Arts Admission Information for Incoming Freshmen:

​

  • Students must apply and be accepted to the University of Oklahoma.  http://www.ou.edu/content/web/admissions_aid.html

  • Once admitted to the University of Oklahoma, all art majors are admitted under the Bachelor of Arts in Art or Bachelor of Arts in Art History degree programs.

  • Students may choose to graduate with the Bachelor of Arts in Art degree, or apply at a later date to one of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art degree programs.  No further application is required for the Bachelor of Arts in Art History.

  • Application Process for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree Programs takes place after portfolio review by School of Visual Arts faculty.

Studio Art: Successfully complete Core I through Core IV and 12 hrs of lower division ART courses.  Portfolio review by Studio faculty.

Art, Technology, and Culture: Successfully complete Core I and Core II. Completion or current enrollment in Core III and Core IV, and portfolio review by ATC faculty.

Visual Communication: Successfully complete Core I and Core II.  Completion or current enrollment in Core III and Core IV, and interview/portfolio review by Visual Communication faculty.

OU Change of Major to Art and Transfer Students from other institutions:

  • The Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts and the School of Visual Arts requires minimum OU and Combined Retention GPAs of 2.50 for admission.

  • All art majors are initially admitted under the Bachelor of Arts in Art or Bachelor of Arts in Art History degree programs.

  • Students may choose to graduate with the Bachelor of Arts in Art degree, or apply at a later date to one of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art degree programs.  No further application is required for the Bachelor of Arts in Art History.
